Fairness, Bias and Ethics in Talent Llama
We understand there’s still some healthy skepticism around AI, and that’s fair. That’s exactly why we’ve built Talent Llama around three core principles: Fairness, Bias Prevention, and Ethical Design.
In each of these areas, we’ve built safeguards to ensure we consistently uphold the high standards we’ve set for fairness and integrity.

Fairness
Talent Llama is on a mission to ensure that all candidates have a fair shot. According to Enboarder, inclusive hiring means actively managing bias from the very first step and giving every applicant a genuine opportunity to be considered. We live and breathe that.
That's why we do things like lockdown the ability to edit your Outline once the first applicant interview is underway. (Harvard Business School notes that standardized interviews, same questions, same order, reduce bias by focusing on performance indicators rather than personality fit).
On top of this, applicants are scored not on their ability to construct a resume or cover letter - they're scored on real experience. Their ability to have lived experience, but also how they might handle certain situations is more important than what they're got written on a resume.
Bias Prevention
We partner with FairNow to ensure every candidate gets a fair and equal opportunity to be seen. Our AI and interview process undergo regular third-party audits to confirm that responses are scored ethically, and that the questions Talent Llama generates remain free from bias.
Our AI focuses on assessing competencies, not communication style. For example, if one applicant uses a perfect STAR-method answer while another doesn’t, the AI will prompt the second applicant for more detail, ensuring both responses are evaluated on equal footing.
Finally, by default in all new account instances, we hide applicant data from everyone in the account. This includes their name and contact details, both in the Campaign Overview, and within the applicants interview Transcript too.
Ethical Design
Ethical Design is the foundation of how we build at Talent Llama. Our AI isn’t a black box, it’s designed to be transparent, explainable, and accountable. Every feature is developed with clear human oversight, ensuring that recruiters always retain decision-making authority. We prioritize privacy-by-design principles, meaning candidate data is encrypted, stored securely, and never used for purposes beyond screening. Beyond compliance, we embed ethics reviews into our product roadmap, so every release, from question generation to reporting, is tested not just for performance, but for fairness, clarity, and impact.
