How to Create and Report on Custom Fields

Custom Fields in Talent Llama make it easy to report on and export traits that your applicants raise in their answers.

You could create a Custom Field to capture which software applicants have used that are relevant to the position, or one to capture what salary they're looking for.

You can then report on those right from inside Results as below!

Adding Custom Fields

Firstly, similarly to Topics, Custom Fields can only be added or edited prior to any interviews taking place. Once one or more interview have taken place, the Outline editor will lock.

Luckily, adding a new Custom Field is frictionless, where you'll create it in a natural language style.

To start, head into your Campaign, and then click Interview (if its a new Campaign, you can do this during the build process)

Within each individual Topic itself, you'll see a button that says + Add Custom Field. Click this button.

You'll then see new fields appear, and it's here that you'll be able to specify what data you're looking to collect.

Additionally, you can have multiple Custom Fields per topic.

Let's for example say you're looking to collect which software your applicants have used before, or their salary expectations. You could set it up similarly to the below.

A quick breakdown of the setup is as follows:

Name: This is simply a title for your Custom Field (keep it simple and recognizable to you)

Type: There are four types of data we can gather;

    • Text
    • Number
    • Yes/No
    • List

Describe the Data: Tell Talent Llama what data to gather. Keep this semi-prompt style. For example if you're asking for something more specific, you should describe it more specifically in your description.

The example in the blank Custom Field is a great example:

Note: Keep your Custom Field relevant to the Topic Itself. If your Topic is about salary, then your Custom Field should be relevant to that.

Reporting on Custom Fields

Once your interviews are underway, your Results tab will start to populate. If you have added Custom Fields, you'll be able to view them in Results.

All Applicant Results

By default your Custom Fields won't appear on the Results page, thankfully it's simple to add them!

To add the relevant columns to your results, click Columns

Then, select the Custom Fields you'd like to show:

Finally, back on the Results screen, you'll see the Columns for each Custom Field you set up!

Individual Applicant Results

You can also view Custom Fields within the individual's Results, which also means in the case of your ATS integration (excluding Gem), you'll be able to see these in the Results we send back to your ATS!
